Taking a Personal Day

Despite my intense love for my fabulous-and slightly zany-friends and family, sometimes I really need to take some time for myself. I try to always be the best friend, daughter, sister, cousin, granddaughter, etc. possible (and often fall short). Still, over the past few years, I've learned that if I don't sometimes cut myself off from the outside world and regroup, I tend to become a bit of a crabby monster instead of the domestic goddess I usually aspire to be.

After a crazy few weeks filled with work and swine and then catching up with work after the swine, this wannabe domestic diva needed an afternoon to avoid real life.

Today I took a personal day. I refused to even look at the 15 items on my to-do list, and instead wandered around Boston. I gave myself time to reconnect with the city that I fell in love with three years ago.

I got to window shop at the Pru (someday, if I ever have money, I'm going to do some serious shoe shopping), and walk through the Commons and Harvard Square. I got to eat a red velvet cupcake at Sweet. I browsed through Papyrus and Barnes & Noble and Black Ink.

Since returning to my apartment, I have been relaxing in front of the television-an activity that's a rare luxury-watching ABC Family's wonderfully awful Christmas movies.

I'm so ready to tackle the next few days of work and school, and to then return home to Connecticut. Check back this week for Thanksgiving updates; I'm completely obsessed with the holiday.

So here's to taking some time off so I can be a better version of myself. What do you do to unwind and regroup?

Oh, and in case you're wondering, the majority of my playlist for my wanderings today was made up of songs from my new favorite show Glee. Check out their version of "Lean on Me" below.
